Ramona Hoeft was born 1961 in Wr.Neustadt, a small town south of Vienna, Austria. Having a stressful and often lonely childhood she turned to drawing as an escape and soon discovered a deep connection to all things creative.
Her focus was on idealized beauty and through art classes in Elementary school she was drawn to portraiture and figures in pencil and ink drawings. Eventually she took an apprenticeship in banking and finance which seemed to suit her well but continued her pursuit of art gaining some recognition and being featured in the local newspaper with her work. In her early twenties she met her Canadian husband while studying theology in West Germany and moved to BC to get married in 1984. Following the birth of two sons she did not draw of paint for about 14 years instead focusing on her family. When her creative drive rekindled she started to add a new dimension to her work using colour pencil to better express herself. From there she continued exploring other mediums and subjects such as watercolour and landscapes. During this time she sold and/or donated quite a number of her paintings but did not pursue art as a business. Through the urging of a friend she finally tried her hand in abstract painting and switched to acrylics. This became her medium of choice from there on in. With the new flexibility of acrylics she started exploring many other subjects such as wildlife, flowers and more. In recent years this hobby has become a serious pursuit for excellence and proficiency which resulted in such a body of work that she decided to step out to show and sell her paintings. She currently has paintings at some galleries, dining establishments and coffee shops as opportunities arise. She has taught what she learned through research and personal experience to others as well. Only this year has she found inspiration and instruction in a workshop with David Langevin as his style and methods of painting resonate with her own experience. She is mostly focused on the ocean, waves, water and landscapes at this time as these subject provide unending inspiration and motivation. Ramona continues to challenge herself in mastering acrylics and hopes to draw others into her experience of beauty through her art. She currently resides and works in Kelowna BC.Biography of Ramona Hoeft

Ramona Hoeft’s artist statement
After forays into various mediums and subjects of expression in my artistic journey I have settled on acrylic in my paintings. I paint on sealed hardboard because of its durability and smooth surface. It is important to me to create art that will stand the test of time. My current focus is on the ocean, waves, water and landscapes. I make use of vibrant colours and employ various methods including texture to show light and movement to draw the viewer into an experience. My paintings are an attempt to convey a moment of transcendence - that experience we all have when something touches us deeply and time stops and compels us to become fully present to the moment - the glow of light on the landscape, the movement and the colours of the ocean waves, the flow of hair moving in the breeze.... Except for books and observation I have been entirely self taught until two recent workshops. My art is an expression of my personal experience of the beauty I see around me and it is my joy and pleasure to share this with others. You can now find Ramona Hoeft originals up in the mountains. A selection of pours are available from Globe Cafe at Big White Ski Resort. Open daily in the summer, Globe supports local artists with a display of works from creative minds from around the Okanagan. My name is Ramona Hoeft. I was born in Austria too many moons ago, and from an early age I enjoyed drawing. There, my art was featured in a local newspaper article and I sold a few pieces. At age 24, I moved to Canada and, for a number of years, I lost touch with my artistic passion.
In the late 1990s that drive to create beauty and colour in this world re-awoke, and I started to learn more about different mediums and expressions of art. I am entirely self taught and that has not always been an easy journey but so worth it. Initially, drawing and painting people was my biggest drive, but over the years I have discovered that I love painting anything beautiful. I have plunged into abstract expressions, mainly to get away from the need to control the outcome and relax more. Now I move back and forth between different subjects and expressions, depending on my state of mind and what inspires me. I didn't aspire to sell my art, as it has been a more private passion and pursuit, but I love sharing it with others. Every painting is meant to be a blessing and inspiration and over the years I have sold many and given away more. Now I feel it's time to 'send' them out into the world for others to enjoy. I am also running out of wall space in my home :) I have done several commissions over the years as well, so feel free to contact me if you have something in mind. I am honoured to have this opportunity to show you my work and thank you for looking. Enjoy the paintings and the day, Ramona Hoeft |
