Ramona Hoeft’s artist statement
After forays into various mediums and subjects of expression in my artistic journey I have settled on acrylic in my paintings. I paint on sealed hardboard because of its durability and smooth surface. It is important to me to create art that will stand the test of time. My current focus is on the ocean, waves, water and landscapes. I make use of vibrant colours and employ various methods including texture to show light and movement to draw the viewer into an experience. My paintings are an attempt to convey a moment of transcendence - that experience we all have when something touches us deeply and time stops and compels us to become fully present to the moment - the glow of light on the landscape, the movement and the colours of the ocean waves, the flow of hair moving in the breeze.... Except for books and observation I have been entirely self taught until two recent workshops. My art is an expression of my personal experience of the beauty I see around me and it is my joy and pleasure to share this with others.
